We got our first look at the new Digg 4.0 on this episode of TWiT.

As Leo’s T-Shirt proclaims, Digg 4.0 was his idea. The new features of Digg 4.0 can be broken into two categories. The first are features designed to make finding stories of interest to you easier. The second are features designed to make Digg story submissions faster and easier.

  • Follow fellow Digg users for a more personalized view of Digg stories
  • A new My News personal Digg Home Page which aggregates and nicely categorizes submissions made by those you follow
  • Comments on stories made by those you follow are shown in-line with the stories
  • My News shows the number of those I follow who dugg the stories as well as the number of total Digg users who dugg the story
  • There is new Leader Board of top stories dugg by your friends
  • Previously on Digg only around 120 stories per day were featured on the Digg home page. This made it difficult for quality content to be found and voted up. The new model allows you greater control over the stories you see. And with the follow model, stories can be dugg exponentially as friends of friends of friends, and so on, digg stories.

  • Adding a new story to Digg requires only two to three clicks. You submit the URL and Digg goes out and fetches and categorizes the story automatically
  • You can now automate the submission of stories to Digg through RSS by claiming your own RSS feed
  • Visit Digg 4.0 and request an invitation to be among the first to take Digg 4.0 for a test drive. According to Kevin Rose, they will be sending out about 10,000 invitations per day until the the official launch.

From what I’ve seen so far I would say that Digg has made a huge and long-awaited improvement over their current version. This new release combines the best of Digg, Twitter and Facebook into one awesome and amazing service.

Tell us what you think of the new Digg 4.0.
